In short: The Ethics and Professionalism Course, by Probity & Ethics, is a live, facilitated ethics and professionalism CPD course by video link on Zoom for UK healthcare professionals facing an allegation or regulator investigation about conduct, attitude or professionalism (GMC, NMC, GDC, GPhC, HCPC or another regulator), a complaint or a fitness to practise concern, and for CPD. It works through the principles of healthcare ethics, what professionalism is made up of, the regulators’ guidance and cases involving ethical dilemmas, and finishes with an exercise in insight and reflection on your own case and an action plan. 5 CPD hours, £499, CPD certified and accredited by The CPD Certification Service (provider no. 13197), with a certificate on completion.
Who this course is for
Facing an allegation about your conduct
A complaint or a referral says your conduct, attitude or behaviour fell below the standard expected, at work or outside it.
Under a fitness to practise investigation
A case is open with the GMC, NMC, GDC, GPhC, HCPC, GOC, GCC, GOsC or Social Work England about professional standards, and you need a dated record of remediation and a structure for your reflection.
An employer investigation or disciplinary
Your employer is investigating a concern about professionalism. Remediation started early, dated and documented, shows you took it seriously before anyone required it.
Advised to complete a course before you respond
Your defence organisation, union or solicitor has suggested an ethics and professionalism course before your response goes in.
Building your CPD
You want a live, facilitated ethics and professionalism course in your CPD record, with discussion rather than a recording.
The concerns this course speaks to
Attitude and communication
A patient or a colleague says you were dismissive, rude or hostile, or that you did not listen. Most professionalism complaints begin with how something was said.
Working with colleagues
A breakdown in a team, an argument that escalated, or a concern about bullying or undermining a colleague.
Conduct outside work
Behaviour outside work, or posts on social media, that may affect public confidence in your profession.
Respect, dignity and fairness
An allegation that a patient or a colleague was treated without respect, or unfairly.
Ethical decisions
A decision about consent, confidentiality or the balance between a patient’s wishes and their interests that has been questioned.
Accepting responsibility
How you responded when the concern was raised. A defensive first reply can become part of the concern, and a regulator reads it for insight.
What the course covers
A live course of 5 CPD hours by Zoom, with breaks, finishing with your own action plan. The certificate is issued on completion.
Ethics in healthcare, and the principles behind it
The ethical principles that underpin healthcare practice, and how they apply to everyday decisions.
Cases involving ethical dilemmas
A review of cases where ethical dilemmas arose, worked through with the facilitator and the group.
What professionalism is made up of
Professionalism and the parts it is made up of: conduct, communication, respect, accountability and trust.
The regulators’ guidance
What the UK healthcare regulators say about ethics and professionalism in their standards.
Why it matters
Why ethics and professionalism matter for healthcare professionals, for patients and for public confidence.
When a breach happens
What to do if a breach of the expected standards happens: insight, reflection and remediation.
Insight and reflection on your own case
An exercise in insight and reflection on your own case or situation.
Your action plan
Structured reflection and an action plan for remediation you can put dates against.

How this helps if a professionalism concern has been raised
A conduct or professionalism concern is read for insight: whether you understand why your behaviour fell short, the effect it had on a patient, a colleague or public confidence, and what you have changed. Every UK healthcare regulator sets standards of conduct as well as standards of practice, and a panel judges your conduct against them.
A day with a facilitator and other professionals gives you the discussion that a written response needs behind it: hearing how others see a situation, testing your own account, and turning what you have learned into a plan.
On completion you receive a dated CPD certificate of 5 CPD hours. With your written reflection, it is evidence for a fitness to practise response, an employer process, a remediation portfolio or your appraisal and revalidation records.

Who facilitates
Frequently asked questions
Who is the Ethics and Professionalism Course for?
Any UK healthcare professional facing a complaint, an employer investigation or a fitness to practise investigation about conduct, attitude or professionalism, with the GMC, NMC, GDC, GPhC, HCPC, GOC, GCC, GOsC or Social Work England, and anyone who wants a live ethics and professionalism course for CPD.
How is this different from the online ethics and professionalism courses?
The online courses are self-paced, 2 CPD hours each, and written to a single profession’s standards or to the standards shared by every profession. The live course is a facilitated day of 5 CPD hours, with discussion, case review and an exercise in insight and reflection on your own case.
Is this course really face to face?
It runs live by video link on Zoom. Face to face here means live and interactive, with a facilitator and other participants, rather than a self-paced recording. You see and speak to the people taking part; the room is a video call. If you would rather work privately, a one-to-one version is available for £250 on top of the course price.
How long is the day, and what is the format?
The course starts at 9.30am and finishes at about 2.30 to 3.00pm, with a lunch break and two tea or coffee breaks. It carries 5 CPD hours and is CPD certified and accredited by The CPD Certification Service (provider no. 13197).
What certificate do I get, and when?
A 5 CPD hour certificate, issued on completion and emailed to you after the course. It records your name, the course title, the CPD hours and the date. You can put it in a remediation portfolio, with a written response to your regulator, or in your appraisal and revalidation records, alongside your own reflection.
Do I have to be under investigation to attend?
No. The course is built for healthcare professionals facing a complaint, an investigation or a fitness to practise process, and it is equally used for CPD and for appraisal evidence. Taking it before anything has gone wrong is a perfectly ordinary reason to come.
Can I take it with online courses?
Yes. In the Bulk Buy bundle you choose ten online courses for £500 and add this live course at £449, £949 in total. The online courses are self-paced and each carries its own CPD certificate.
