In short

What are the Face-to-Face Courses?

They are four live, facilitated day courses in ethics, probity, professional boundaries and reflective practice, run via video link and certified by The CPD Certification Service. Each carries 5 CPD hours, costs £499, and issues a certificate on completion.

They are run virtually rather than in a room: face to face here means live and interactive with a facilitator and other participants, not a self-paced recording. The day starts at 9.30am and finishes around 2.30 to 3.00pm, with a lunch break and two tea or coffee breaks. Any of the four can be run one to one for £250 more.

They are built for professionals facing a case or investigation with any UK healthcare regulator, and are equally used for ordinary CPD and appraisal evidence. No regulator approves courses from any provider, and no course decides a case. What a day gives you is a facilitator, other people in the same position, and structured work on your own case — which is the part most people find hardest to do alone.

Key terms

What your regulator means by insight, reflection and remediation

Four terms recur throughout regulatory correspondence, and the courses are built around them. They are not interchangeable, and being clear about which one a letter is asking for makes a practical difference to how you respond.

Fitness to practice
Having the skills, knowledge, character and health to practise your profession safely and effectively. A regulator opens a fitness to practice investigation when a concern suggests that one of those may be in question. It is a judgement about current and future safety, not only about what happened.
Insight
Understanding what went wrong, why it happened, and the effect it had on patients, colleagues and public confidence in the profession. Insight is assessed at almost every stage, whatever the allegation, and it is the element most often described as lacking.
Reflection
Setting that understanding down honestly and in your own words, including what you would do differently and what you have already changed. Reflection is the written record of insight, which is why the two are so often confused.
Remediation
The concrete steps taken so that the same thing does not happen again - training, supervision, changes to how you work - together with evidence that they happened. Insight without remediation is an account; remediation without insight is a certificate.

Common questions

Questions professionals ask us

Are these courses actually Face-to-Face?

They are run virtually, live, via video link on Zoom. Face to face here means live and interactive with a facilitator and other participants, rather than a self-paced recording. You see and speak to the people in the room; the room is a video call.

If you want a genuinely private session, a one-to-one version of any of the four courses is available for £250 on top of the course price.

How long is the day, and what is the format?

The day starts at 9.30am and finishes around 2.30 to 3.00pm, with a lunch break and two tea or coffee breaks. Each course carries 5 CPD hours and is certified by The CPD Certification Service.

Which of the four courses should I take?

Match the course to the concern that has been raised. Probity and Ethics is for honesty and dishonesty allegations. Ethics and Professionalism is for conduct, attitude and professionalism concerns. Professional Boundaries is for boundary, consent and chaperone issues. The Reflection Workshop is for building insight and writing reflection that holds up to scrutiny.

If your letter names more than one concern, or you are not sure how it has been categorised, contact us and we will help you choose.

Do I have to be under investigation to attend?

No. The courses are built for professionals facing a case or investigation with their regulator, but they are equally used for continuing professional development and for appraisal evidence. Attending before anything has gone wrong is a perfectly ordinary reason to come.

What certificate do I get, and when?

A 5 hour CPD certificate, issued on completion and emailed to you after the course.

It records the course title, the CPD hours and your name, and you can include it in a remediation portfolio, in a written response to your regulator, or in your appraisal or revalidation records alongside your own reflection.

Does my regulator approve these courses?

No regulator approves, accredits or endorses courses from any provider, including us, and none keeps an approved list. What these courses give you is independent certification and a dated record that you acted, and when. The weight it carries depends on the circumstances of your case, and no course can guarantee an outcome.

The next date is too late for my deadline. Can you run one sooner?

Often, yes. If you need a course urgently, contact us and we will try to arrange an earlier date. A one-to-one session can usually be arranged more quickly than a group sitting.

What is the one-to-one option?

Any of the four courses can be run as a private one-to-one session for £250 extra, whether the course is purchased individually or as part of a Bulk Buy bundle. It covers the same material, and the date is arranged around you.

What does a course cost?

£499 for a single face-to-face course. Inside the Bulk Buy bundle it comes down to £449: ten online courses at £500 plus one face-to-face course at £449, £949 in total.

A one-to-one session is £250 extra either way.

Should I take a Face-to-Face course or the online ones?

They do different jobs. The online catalogue lets you cover several specific concerns and build a portfolio of certificates at your own pace. A Face-to-Face day gives you a facilitator, discussion with other professionals in the same position, and structured exercises on your own case — which is what most people find hardest to do alone.

Many people do both: the day for insight and reflection, the online courses for breadth.

The other half of the catalogue

Online courses, by regulator

Twenty-eight self-paced CPD courses, with a page written to each regulator’s standards. Many people take a Face-to-Face day for insight and reflection, and online courses for breadth.

Any ten online courses are £500 — see the bulk buy offer. Booking for a team rather than yourself? We run the same four courses as group sessions for healthcare organisations.

Book a course, or ask about a date
