In short: The Probity and Ethics Course, by Probity & Ethics, is a live, facilitated probity and ethics CPD course by video link on Zoom for UK healthcare professionals facing an allegation or regulator investigation about honesty, integrity or ethics (GMC, NMC, GDC, GPhC, HCPC or another regulator), a complaint or a fitness to practise concern, and for CPD. It works through what the regulators say about probity, honesty and trust, case examples and ethical dilemmas, and finishes with structured work on your own situation and a personalised action plan. 5 CPD hours, £499, CPD certified and accredited by The CPD Certification Service (provider no. 13197), with a certificate on completion.
Who this course is for
Facing an allegation of dishonesty
Your regulator’s letter or your employer’s investigation is about dishonesty, a record changed after the event, a misleading claim or money. A probity matter is read largely for candour and character, and this course works through what a case examiner or panel reads a response for.
Under a fitness to practise investigation
A case is open with the GMC, NMC, GDC, GPhC, HCPC, GOC, GCC, GOsC or Social Work England, and you need a dated record of remediation and a structure for your written reflection.
An employer investigation that may be referred
Your employer is investigating, or has already referred the matter. Remediation completed early, dated and documented, reads differently from remediation put together after your regulator has asked for it.
Advised to complete a course before you respond
Your defence organisation, union or solicitor has suggested a probity and ethics course before your response goes in. The day gives you a structure for that response and a plan you can put dates against.
Building your CPD
You want a live, facilitated probity and ethics course in your CPD record, with discussion rather than a recording.
The concerns this course speaks to
Records changed after the event
An entry made to look as if it was written at the time, an entry left out, or a correction not shown as a correction. The record is read before your account of it.
Claims, invoices and timesheets
A claim, a fee or a timesheet that does not match the service, the time or the record. A claim is a statement of what happened, whatever the reason for the mismatch.
Conflicts of interest
An interest in a referral, a product, a supplier or a business that was not declared, or that shaped the advice. Having an interest is not misconduct; leaving it undeclared is what becomes the concern.
Declarations to your regulator
A caution, a charge, a finding by another body or a restriction imposed by an employer that was not declared when it should have been.
Claims about yourself
A title, a qualification, experience or results described in a way a patient or a colleague says was misleading, in a CV, an application or advertising.
Candour during the process
An account that changed as the evidence arrived. A probity question can begin in the process itself, which is why the way you respond matters as much as what you say.
What the course covers
A live course of 5 CPD hours by Zoom, with breaks, finishing with your own action plan. The certificate is issued on completion.

How this helps if a probity concern has been raised
In a probity case, the reflection carries the weight. The GMC describes probity as being honest and trustworthy and acting with integrity, and every other UK healthcare regulator sets a version of the same expectation. Competence can be retrained; trust has to be rebuilt, and a panel has only your account and your conduct to judge it by.
A probity reflection has to acknowledge the conduct fully and without qualification, explain why it happened without excusing it, and show change sustained over time. Working through that with a facilitator and other people in the same position is the part most people find hardest to do alone.
On completion you receive a dated CPD certificate of 5 CPD hours. With your written reflection, it is evidence for a fitness to practise response, a remediation portfolio, an appraisal folder or a revalidation submission.

Who facilitates
Frequently asked questions
Who is the Probity and Ethics Course for?
Any UK healthcare professional facing a complaint, an employer investigation or a fitness to practise investigation about honesty, integrity or ethics, with the GMC, NMC, GDC, GPhC, HCPC, GOC, GCC, GOsC or Social Work England, and anyone who wants a live probity and ethics course for CPD.
How is this different from the online probity course?
The online Probity for Healthcare Professionals course is self-paced, 2 CPD hours, and you can start it straight away. The live course is a facilitated day of 5 CPD hours, with discussion, case examples and structured work on your own situation. Some people take both: the online course first, then the live day before their response goes in.
Is this course really face to face?
It runs live by video link on Zoom. Face to face here means live and interactive, with a facilitator and other participants, rather than a self-paced recording. You see and speak to the people taking part; the room is a video call. If you would rather work privately, a one-to-one version is available for £250 on top of the course price.
How long is the day, and what is the format?
The course starts at 9.30am and finishes at about 2.30 to 3.00pm, with a lunch break and two tea or coffee breaks. It carries 5 CPD hours and is CPD certified and accredited by The CPD Certification Service (provider no. 13197).
What certificate do I get, and when?
A 5 CPD hour certificate, issued on completion and emailed to you after the course. It records your name, the course title, the CPD hours and the date. You can put it in a remediation portfolio, with a written response to your regulator, or in your appraisal and revalidation records, alongside your own reflection.
Do I have to be under investigation to attend?
No. The course is built for healthcare professionals facing a complaint, an investigation or a fitness to practise process, and it is equally used for CPD and for appraisal evidence. Taking it before anything has gone wrong is a perfectly ordinary reason to come.
Can I take it with online courses?
Yes. In the Bulk Buy bundle you choose ten online courses for £500 and add this live course at £449, £949 in total. The online courses are self-paced and each carries its own CPD certificate.
