Why certified CPD

Why certified courses matter

Regulators expect registrants to demonstrate genuine insight and measurable professional development. Independently certified CPD is one of the clearest ways to show you have taken that seriously.

  • Independently certified

Every course is assessed and certified by The CPD Certification Service rather than self-declared. The certificate, together with your own reflection, is what goes into a portfolio or a written response.

  • Available immediately

Access the moment you enrol. No waiting and no scheduling, which matters when you need to show that you acted promptly.

  • Written by a clinician

Courses are written and reviewed by a practising doctor with postgraduate training in healthcare law and ethics, not assembled from generic compliance material.

  • Aligned to the standards you are judged against

Each course addresses the standards most often cited in referrals across the nine UK regulators, so the reflection you write answers the question actually being asked.

  • The kind of CPD advisers ask for

Indemnity providers and regulatory solicitors routinely advise registrants to undertake structured, certified CPD as part of a remediation plan. We receive recommendations from them, which is not the same as endorsement.

  • Online, on any device

Self-paced and browser-based, so a course can be completed in short sittings around clinical work.

FAQs

Online CPD courses: frequently asked questions

The questions we are asked most often, by people who have just received a letter and by people building CPD evidence in the ordinary way.

What are online CPD courses for healthcare professionals?

Online CPD courses for healthcare professionals are self-paced, independently certified courses in ethics, probity, professionalism and fitness to practice, taken to evidence insight, reflection and remediation to a UK regulator, an employer or an appraiser.

Most people arrive because a concern has been raised and they need to put that evidence in writing. Others take them as ordinary continuing professional development, for appraisal, revalidation or a return to practice after a period away. We publish 28 for each of the nine UK regulators, £49 to £99 each, every one certified by The CPD Certification Service under Provider No. 13197.

Are the courses CPD certified?

Yes. Every course is independently assessed and certified by The CPD Certification Service, under Provider No. 13197. Each awards CPD hours or points and issues a dated certificate on completion, which you can download immediately and include in a remediation portfolio, a written response or your CPD record.

Does my regulator approve or endorse these courses?

No. No UK healthcare regulator approves, accredits or endorses courses from any provider, including us, and none keeps an approved list. What these courses give you is independent certification and a dated record of what you studied and when. The weight comes from the reflection you write alongside it.

Which courses should I take?

Go to your regulator’s page. Each one carries 28 courses grouped by the type of concern raised, and a Core Set of six that applies whatever the allegation — insight, reflection, remediation, non-repetition, the fitness to practice process itself and rebuilding trust.

If you are not sure which heading your concern falls under, each regulator page has a selector for exactly that, or contact us and we will point you at the right ones.

How quickly can I start after purchasing?

Immediately. Access is granted as soon as payment is confirmed, with no waiting period and no scheduling. If you are facing a deadline or a hearing date, you can begin a course and obtain a certificate the same day.

How many CPD hours does each course award?

Most courses award 2 CPD hours or points. The three short modules — Insight, Reflection and Remediation — award 1.5 each, and the Medical Ethics Course and Professional Ethics Course award 2.5 each. The six-course Core Set totals 10.5 CPD hours.

Do I have to be registered to take a course?

No. There is no registration requirement and no entry criteria. The courses are written for registered professionals, but they are equally available to students, to people whose registration is currently suspended or lapsed, and to anyone preparing to return to practice.

Is there a discount for buying several courses?

Yes. Any ten online courses are £500 together, against £49 to £99 each individually. A bundle that also includes a live face-to-face day is £949. Both are on the bulk buy offer page.

Can I buy courses for a colleague or a team?

Yes. Employers, clinic owners, principals and practice managers can purchase on behalf of registrants. For team or group enrolment, and especially where several people need to complete the same course as part of a shared programme, see the courses for healthcare organisations page or contact us.

Do you run live courses as well?

Yes. The same material runs as facilitated day courses by video link, at £499, or £449 inside the bulk buy bundle. Dates and booking are on the face-to-face courses page.

Official guidance

Read your regulator’s own standards

If a concern has been raised about you, read your own regulator’s standards directly as well as anything written about them. Remediation written against the named standard, rather than in general terms, is answering the question actually being asked.

Probity & Ethics is an independent CPD provider. We are not affiliated with, accredited by, or endorsed by any of the regulators listed above, or any other healthcare regulator.
